TIPS FOR CHOOSING THE RIGHT PSYCHOLOGIST FOR YOU
One of the most important things is finding someone you feel comfortable talking to. You
can determine this quickly in a brief 15-20-minute telephone chat. You also need to
confirm that the psychologist you are going to work with offers psychological services in
your specific area(s) of concern. As you can imagine there are a vast number of issues and
problems that people can face. There tends to be an assumption that psychologists offer
an unlimited range of services in most areas. This is not the case. For example, I offer
couple therapy but not family therapy. So, it's always a good idea to see if you can have
that brief telephone chat. This is usually sufficient to get a sense of your comfort level and
also whether services in your area of concern are offered. Personally, I like to have the chat
when contacted if I'm free. Other wise I usually set up a time that's convenient for you. The
conversation also helps me get a sense of the individual in advance. I encourage speaking
to a couple of psychologists in your preferred location to help you make the decision that's
best for you!.
